Thank you to everyone who contacted the Chicago City Council and voiced your support for the local animal lovers in Chicago as they move their spay & neuter ordinance towards law.
Earlier
this week, I traveled to Chicago with a group of spay and neuter experts
to testify before the Chicago City Council on the merits of common-sense
spay and neuter laws. After over two and half hours of testimony, there
were still over 80 people waiting to speak before the council (supporters
outnumbered those opposed by almost 2 to 1). The hearing was adjourned
and a second hearing will be scheduled so that all those waiting to speak
will be heard before the vote is taken.
The star witness before the committee was Bob Barker. Bob has a deep understanding of the benefits and cost savings of spay and neuter laws, his testimony was spectacular and he was greeted with a standing ovation. Bob had witty, persuasive and intelligent responses to every question from the Aldermen and left no doubt about how Chicago can benefit from this law.
We will keep you up to date as spay and neuter laws, including the Chicago ordinance and our own AB 1634, continue to move the country towards a more humane future for our pets.
